Welcome to 5th grade!
The 5th grade classroom doubles as the science classroom for the 5th-8th grades.
5th graders are in the 5th grade classroom for Language Arts, Religion and Science each day. The Language Arts curriculum consists of spelling, english, grammar and writing and is based on the 6 trait writing model. In English we will read a variety of short stories, as well as novels which include: Shiloh, Sign of the Beaver, The War with Grandpa, Windcatcher, Al Capone Does My Shirts and The Man Who Loved Clowns. The core of 5th grade religion curriculum includes the Sacraments and the elements of the Mass.
Why can you never trust atoms?….They make up everything!
5th grade scientists will learn about health and nutrition, as learn about all the systems in the human body.
6th grade scientists will spend their year learning about physical science (force, motion, electricity, simple machines, different types of waves and chemistry). Some of their favorite activities are, making their own musical instrument, making homemade ice cream and performing any of Steve Spangler’s science experiments.
7th grade scientists keep very busy throughout the year learning about living things. They will learn about cells, genetics, plants, bacteria, taxonomy and animals. Designing their own cell model, learning to use a microscope, and dissection are the highlights of 7th grade science.
8th grade science transforms the students into geologists, meteorologists and astronomers. 8th grade scientists will design jewelry from various minerals, go live on location to report on famous volcanic eruptions as well as identify various rocks and minerals.
These are just a few of the hands-on learning activities the St. Gregory scientists are experimenting with.
Welcome to 5th grade and to the life of a middle school student. This will be a very exciting year full of learning. Band, switching classes, lockers and chewing gum are just some of the new experiences for a 5th grade student. Looking forward to an awesome year!!
Wow! We have 45 people (lots of students and a handful of parents) signed up for this year’s Summer Of Service S.O.S. Crew! We have already been busy at work at the food pantry and picking up trash around the school grounds. Don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of our summer…
Please return the inquiry sheet for the zoo as soon as possible so we can figure out the total cost. Permission slips will come home on Monday, May 7th.
