We are in the middle of our Fitnessgram Testing for grades 3rd-8th. This is the first time the 3rd graders are participating in the testing and they are doing an excellent job of following directions and trying their best. All other grades are showing lots of improvement between now and the testing they did at the beginning of the school year. It is very exciting to see how hard the students are working to improve their level of fitness. The 5th-8th graders will be using the results of their Fitnessgram tests to develop their own workout plans. These plans will focus on the areas of improvement they would like to have by our final testing at the end of the school year.
Our 7th/8th graders are also getting the privilege to workout at Northwest Missouri State University with Joe Quinlin. We will be traveling to Northwest most Thursdays throughout the spring semester. The students will be learning proper warm-up and cool down procedures, correct form on a variety of exercises, and have an introduction to weight-training.
This semester is going to be packed with many different exciting units. We will be dancing and creating our own dances. Our students will be dancing to songs such as “Call Me Maybe”, “Happy”, “Boot Scootin Boogie”, and the “Cha Cha Slide”. Our students will learn approximately two dances per day and will have several opportunities to partner with different classmates. They will also be dancing some line dances. We will be participating in a racket unit where the students will try their hand at tennis, racquetball, and pickleball. We will be learning the rules of each of these games as well as the specific skills necessary to play and compete in each of the activities.
Our 5th/6th grade basketball teams have been in full swing with their season. They have been participating in local area tournaments. The boys basketball teams will be participating in our St. Gregory tournament on Saturday, January 20th. Please come out and support our players and coaches.
7th and 8th graders be on the lookout for the track schedule! Our first day of practice will be February 28th from 3pm-4pm. If you are interested please let Mrs. Braymen know as soon as possible.
