6th Grade Happenings—10/15/2017

Categories: Classroom News,Sixth Grade

What a blessing the students had on Friday as they finished off the first quarter of the school year!  It seems like they had an amazing time on their retreat–we are so thankful to all those who really helped pull their day together: Mrs. Martin, Mrs. Dropinski, Mrs. Brownsberger, Sam, and Father Albert.  They seemed to really enjoy their day as they focused on prayer in their young lives, something that we are also focusing on right now in our Religion class.

Please make a note of the following things we have going on over the next couple of weeks…this month has flown by and will end just as quickly!
–Please keep sending in food for Stocktober as we collect food for the Ministry Center throughout the month of October.  As of Thursday, 6th grade was in 2nd place for the most pounds collected–thank you!
–This Thursday, our 6th grade class will be doing the Mass roles for the 8am Mass.  Cooper, Trevan, and Landon will be servers; Keagan and Brinley will be the song leaders; Derek will read, Wesley will say the response; Thomas, Bea, Wyatt, and Don will read the petitions; Quenton and Kayla will carry up the gifts.
We are encouraging all students to wear their navy blue St. Gregory’s PTO shirts as there will be a photographer at this Mass capturing some photos for a school brochure.
–Saturday is a Bearcat Football game.  Please sign-up if your child is able to help with trash pick-up following the game.  The game is at 2pm, so we’d probably start picking up trash around 5 or so…  Here is the link to sign up if you are able to.
–All next week is Red Ribbon week–look for more information with dress-up days and activities to come home later this week.
–Peace Posters are due next Monday, October 23.  The students had about a week to work on them in school, and now have them at home to get finished up.  A representative from the Maryville Pride Lions will be in Monday to pick them up for judging at their meeting that evening.  The top design from our class gets a $50 from the organization and then it goes on to a regional round.
–Conferences are also held throughout next week. Students need to join their parents as they are student-led conferences.  If you haven’t done so already, please use the following link to sign up for a conference time.
–Wednesday, October 25 is 6th Grade Day in the lunchroom.  Please return the yellow form if you haven’t done so already.  Our plan is to create our cave drawings throughout the morning so they can show them off to you after you eat lunch together.  Hopefully the rain can hold off!
–Also, at 8:00am next Wednesday morning, we will be holding the 5th – 8th grade Success Showcase.  Join us in the gym right when school starts to help us recognize all the hard work completed by the students over the 1st quarter.  It will last about 25-30 minutes or so.
This just summarizes a few things that our class in particular has going on–please refer to Mrs. Stiens’s weekly emails to see the overall list of messages and weekly reminders.
Have a great week–thanks for all you do for your child.  We are really having a great year–and it’s because of what being done at home in addition to what we do at school.  Thank you!!
